Living with ADHD or autism can shape the way you experience the world around you. Occupational therapy helps you understand how your unique neurodivergence impacts routines, roles, relationships and wellbeing, so you can make meaningful changes that support the life you want to live.
Understanding how neurodivergence affects everyday life
Many neurodivergent adults spend years wondering why everyday life feels harder than it seems to for everyone else.
You may have developed ways of coping that worked for a long time, only to find you can no longer keep up with the demands of work, parenting, relationships or daily life. Some people reach adulthood before finally recognising that ADHD or autism may explain experiences they’ve had all along.
Occupational therapy isn’t about fixing who you are. It’s about understanding how your brain works, recognising your strengths and challenges, and creating ways of living that feel more sustainable.
You might be experiencing
- Exective functioning challenges
- Attention and memory difficulties
- Sensory overwhelm
- Emotional dysregulation
- Masking and people pleasing
- Difficulty getting started
- Time blindness and hyperfocus
- Difficulty managing routines
- Inconsistent motivation
- Burnout
How occupational therapy can help
Every neurodivergent person’s experience is different. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all approach, occupational therapy starts with understanding how your unique strengths, challenges and ways of thinking are affecting your everyday life, the roles that matter to you, and the way you want to live.
Together, we’ll make sense of the challenges you’re experiencing and translate that understanding into practical changes that support your everyday life
My approach is built around three stages:
Understand
Gain clarity about how your brain works and how it’s affecting your capacity, identity and everyday life.
Rebuild
Rebuild routines, roles and ways of living that better reflect your strengths, capacity, priorities and what matters most to you.
Sustain
Together we create practical strategies that feel realistic and sustainable, helping you maintain changes long after therapy has finished.
Together we might explore
- Making every day tasks more manageable
- Creating routines that work with your brain
- Reducing overwhelm and cognitive load
- Improving organisation, planning and follow through
- Building confidence and self compassion
- Navigating relationships and communication
- Managing work, study and home demands
- Preventing burnout and supporting recovery
Frequently asked questions
No. Many people seek support while they're exploring neurodivergence, waiting for an assessment, or beginning to recognise traits in themselves. Therapy focuses on your experiences and everyday life, not just a diagnosis
Absolutely. Many adults identify with both ADHD and autism (AuDHD), and there is often significant overlap in how these experiences affect everyday life. Therapy is tailored to your individual strengths, challenges and goals, rather than focusing on a diagnosis alone
Occupational therapy focuses on how neurodivergence affects your everyday life. Rather than looking only at symptoms, we explore how your strengths, challenges and environment influence your ability to participate in the activities, roles and routines that matter to you. Together, we develop practical strategies that support a more sustainable way of living
Not at all. A diagnosis in adulthood often brings a mix of relief, grief, validation and questions. Occupational therapy can help you make sense of your experiences, understand how your brain works, and build practical ways of living that feel more sustainable.
You don't need a referral to see an occupational therapist privately.
If you're eligible, you may also be able to access occupational therapy through a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, or through other funding options depending on your circumstances.
If you're unsure which option is right for you, feel free to get in touch and I'd be happy to discuss the best pathway.
